Hello everybody,

I am a university grad in Texas.I am in my 20's and I am looking for my first job out of college.I do not have a credit score because I am a fan of Dave Ramsey.I do not go into personal debt. Will my lack of a credit score possibly cause me trouble getting a job? Thanks in advance everybody.

Unless you're going to be a financial manager or in a position with access to company funds or accounts a credit check is very unlikely to be part of a conditional job offer.

Yea a credit check is not usually involved unless you would have access to employer or client funds. Governmental entities can also be extreme about background checking.

As long as it's not a bad credit score it shouldn't affect one's chances at finding a job.

And no, it's not illegal for employers to do credit checks.

I have no personal debt, but have a few credit cards, I just pay everything off in full each month, easy way to build a credit history, I think mine is 820.

Many companies are running credit checks on candidates who do not have anything to do with money at all. A lack of a credit score may be a deterrent to them.

I've worked in accounting, tax, and legal fields and in no case would this be an issue. The reason they run a credit report is to weed out deadbeats, but having no credit would be fine.

The thinking is that if you're a deadbeat with your creditors, you have a personality defect and wouldn't be a reliable employee. This doesn't apply in the case of someone who just doesn't borrow anything.
