7. Everyone at work lies and keeps secrets. The workplace is very fake. People put on a false image everyday just to keep their jobs. You don't and never will really know your coworkers.

I disagree with #2. Far more important who the golfing/drinking buddies are if you want to get ahead. . . .

This probably varies by office and profession.

This. Money and experience early.

I would have also focus more on the skill of networking. The top 3 best jobs I have landed have come primarily from networking and getting my resume to the right person.

Rule number one: working for someone else generally stinks,and rarely if ever will you make the kind of life you want for yourself while working for others.

Rule number two: it is YOUR responsibility to educate yourself, whether school or OJT, so you can better your life by saving and investing as much as possible. This will greatly reduce the impact of number one.

Major in what I'm doing now. I was so lost in what career direction to go. Some people knew, I didn't. I was so depressed. I'm almost 40 and if I could do it again, I wish I took the path to get to where I am now so I had a focus and direction.
