Absolutely incorrect, and no one on this forum has EVER provided proof that 'most' employers won't say anything other than dates of employment due to fear of some mythical lawsuit. And no one has given any proof that someone successfully sued a company because they gave truthful information about the person's termination.
So people, please stop with this urban myth.
SOME companies may not as a general practice, but certainly not MOST or all. As long as it is true, an employer can say anything they want about a former employee. Anyone that thinks they are safe because companies are afraid to elaborate on a former employee, have a serious reality check coming.
Even from a basic common sense level, on what grounds does any person have threatening a lawsuit against a company, if that company truthfully mentions the reason that person was let go? Even more, if you apply for a new job, that company has every right to ask you as an applicant why you were let go.
By the way OP, you still haven't elaborated or answered many of our questions in regards to your 'friend.' Something is not adding up about the story.
