Seeing Verizon and Costco on here boggles the mind.

Verizon, in particular. The big draw to them was that they were still offering a pension, but they don't do that anymore. Then they had a nice 401k match, but they've been chipping away at that. Their other benefits are mediocre.

Costco never had particularly compelling benefits if you were anything but a front-line worker. Costco is an interesting company in that the people working in the shopping centers are basically overpaid and given beyond industry standard benefits, which makes them very happy. But the people working back of house at the offices are typically underpaid, and the benefits don't line up with competitors.


Your very large tech companies (the Googles, Apples, Salesforce, Facebooks of the world) are going to have superior benefits because of the shortage of talent. Your up and coming tech companies like Proofpoint, Paycom, Netscout, Palo Alto are going to find creative ways to leap their benefits a step ahead because they're thirsty for top talent. The top financial services companies like Goldman Sachs and Edward Jones have a vested interest in being a cut above so that they stay on top, etc.


Basically, an easy way to find companies with great benefits is to run down the Forbes 100 list for general purpose companies, and then find the tech companies with the most growth and upside since tech is where it's at right now, and you'll find your answers.

Worst benefits ever, given that you end up shouldering the full brunt of the social security and medicaid taxes. Most people who start their own business, one of their first big lessons is the increased taxes they just signed up for. And don't even get me started on the cost of self-sponsored health care.
