My father worked seven days a week for maybe the first fifteen years of my life, no holidays off. He had a manual labor two-man business and it gradually became bigger, but he continued his seven-day schedule. Obviously this is not the same as doing it as a salary worker, though all of his earliest employees had that schedule too.

But having had the experience of watching his life, and being part of it, I have to give a resounding second to the above comments. There is not much left of you to have a life outside of work with that kind of schedule.

I did it for 3 years straight. Day job M-F. Graduate class t, th evenings. Worked local Home Improvement Center Sat and Sun. Had a wife and two kids to feed and was in school. Sucked then, but I did what I had to do to keep my kids fed. reaping the rewards now. How's the saying? Short term pain for Long Term Gain?

Way back when, in between jobs, I had an 8AM-5PM day job M-F, and a PT 8PM- 4AM weekend job F and Sa nights, that went on for about 6 months and I finally found a job in my field that paid well. So my Friday was, get up at 6AM, get to the day job, then punch out, grab something quick to eat and punch in for the night at 8PM, didn't see the pillow again until about 5:30AM. My wife worked for a start up operation, they were working 12/7 for a few months. We look back on it now and say, how did we do that? But we did, you do what you have to do. As we look back on it, we look at it with pride, our kids have a great work ethic, they are doing well, we are near retirement and our home is paid off and we have saved for a comfortable retirement. We have friends and acquaintances who chased the jackpot and never found it, they are not doing as well.

OP - you do not know much about the real world in my humble opinion. If you can get someone to help pull your head out of your panzyasszzzz....it would help and you should by them a few drinks after the nasty deed.

Try 40 hours in a 2 day period.....

I work in a 3rd world shiite hole country - and work 7 days a GD week for about 4 to 5 months at a stretch onshore
When I was abit younger I have pulled 9 months offshore in a 12 month period.

When I was alot younger I roughnecked 7 days aweek and pulled doubles, i.e., 16 hrs a tour (day) when I was not on a normal 12 hr tour.

Been in the oilfield now for 40+ years.... God willing I will retire in couple of years....

Here is what I have heard many times since 1978....your job is your FN GD bonus....if you don't like it....the next MF will....

And sincerely be grateful for the job hombre....there is lots of SOB's out there that would trade places with you in a heart beat.

When I was in Graduate School, we used to work in lab or Office almost every day. Sadly Research Assistant is hardly recognised as a job.

I did last weekend and today I called in sick! I was mentally exhausted on the 12 day (Wednesday) so all day Thursday I tried to get all the important stuff off my desk with the intention of calling in sick on Friday (today). Now I am enjoying my long weekend since I did not get one last week.

I used to be a computer programmer analyst and worked 60 to 90 hours a week at a bank called First of America (they don't exist anymore because they were swallowed up by a larger bank). I was salaried so the bank did not pay me for my overtime work. I also was on calI 100% of the time, including evenings, weekends, and even vacations. I put up with this for more than 3 years at that place before I quit in disgust and acquired a better job. My subsequent jobs did involve unpaid overtime work, but it wasn't so bad. I was like a zombie when I worked at First of America and needless to say did not have much of a life outside of work.
