i love my job. but i also love traveling solo, visiting friends, stay-cations to read/write, music festivals etc. No matter how much you enjoy your job, there are other things to love and enjoy in life.

I think that is where the OP is missing the point. Sure there are doctors, lawyers, plumbers, carpenters, secretaries, etc. that truly love their job and what they do for a living, but people have hobbies and other interests as well, and don't forget kids. If you want to take your kids somewhere to a National Park or to Disney or on a cruise you will need to take vacation time!

I guess if you were a travel/lifestyle/leisure writer that got paid to travel the world and write about it, then maybe you wouldn't need a "vacation", but you still might like a break from that every now and then to decompress, even if it was your passion.
