Is it not being acknowledged when walking in? Is it not being asked if you need help and look lost? Is it the general vibe of the store?

I only walk out of retail stores when I get treated rudely. It rarely happens, and I'm someone that is very understanding and doesn't need to be coddled when I go into a store. I just don't want to be treated dismissively if I'm just asking a question because I'm a good customer that is pretty patient and not obnoxious at all. I hate rude customers so I try my hardest to make sure I never give retail employees a hard time.

I'm not sure this thread is in the right place, I thought this sub forum would be the best place for it but if it needs to be moved then please do so Mods!

Not finding what I want or prices way out of line with local prices.

No checkers or too few checkers and very long lines (and only that when I am not buying something I need badly)

Some sort of dangerous situation. Twice I've left a pet supply store because someone was in there with a very sick dog or a dangerously aggressive dog that was out of control.

Yes to these and I will add:

Being followed or closely watched by a sales associate. Shopping while black is very real.

Sales associates texting or socializing with each other or their friends while blatantly ignoring customers.

Sales associates invading my space while I am looking. I understand clothes have to be returned to the floor, but do you have to put back the clothes back in exactly in the same spot where I am looking right now at this moment?

Loud music. If I have to shout to be heard, the music is too loud. Even as a teen I hated stores where the music was blaring. I came to shop not zumba.

Too crowded. I usually don't mind crowds, but I try to avoid stores during peak times when they are the most busy, but that is not always possible.

When the music makes me want to rip my ears off.

When I ask a sales associate about something and the reply is "I don't know. I don't work in this department" and he walks off, assuming he has done his job.

Being ignored by a sales associate when I'm clearly standing there at the counter for a reason.

Stock levels, variety and pricing lead the field.
If they have the items I want, at a price I like, almost anything else is tolerable.

In other words... stick to the basics.
Few retailers seem able to do this anymore.

When I walk in to a retail store, I expect to find what I'm looking for and be able to pay easily/quickly and leave. If I can't do those things, I'm gone.

I can't say I've ever been treated rudely. And I actually rarely seek help - if someone's there and ask what I'm looking for, I'll take advantage of that. But I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. Now, if we're talking about an establishment where you can't just pick your item from a shelf - then that's a different story.

But with online shopping - I rarely step foot in a retail establishments these days unless that is my only option.
