If my employee said he had interviews, I would be appreciative and start looking for his replacement. What if I find someone before you get a job offer? Well... you're leaving anyway, can't leave this new person hanging until you get a job: you're fired.
What's to say he didn't already bring it up?
.
Even then, AFAIK, if the OP does bring it up and ended up leaving the meeting because changes couldn't be agreed upon, I'm guessing that his boss will now be "on edge" anyways, as sometimes, a common next step would be to start looking for work.
Last but not least, while the OP may not care about the work, it's also possible the company may not care about him. Blame to go both ways really.
Yeah, often times there is blame both ways but we often point to either being an employee's issue or an employee's issue. What it seems from the OP is that the OP has a good relationship with their boss and the boss knows their career goals and it is not in that department but yet as an accountant.

This exactly is why you shouldn't do that. If I am interviewing perhaps I am just seeing what is out there and that's it. Perhaps it is for a second job on top of this she to whatever reason.
To the bolded - I'd say it really doesn't matter. Every situation is unique.
The general rule of thumb is that you keep it to yourself to minimize any risk to you. But again, that is a general consensus. You may have very little risk exposed by telling him whereas someone else would be taking a HUGE risk by saying anything.
I've had folks that worked for me who were going to school with the intent of changing careers. But they were great assets so while I hated to lose them, I was supportive where I can to help them get where they want. On the flip side, if I had someone that was a PITA to deal with and they threw it in my face that they're looking for a better opportunity - I'd probably also support them by freeing up their time to concentrate on said search.
I just sent an email telling him that I have two interviews next week. Even though I "feel stupid" for doing this, I felt like it was the right thing to do. My current boss has been awesome with me so I wanted to pay him back with the same respect that he has shown me. Would you guys have done the same thing?
Hell, no!
Telling your boss you are looking for another job is the kiss of death.

I work in IT for a large F50 financial firm. Within IT I specialize in "data protection" (DP) which covers things like monitoring emails, checking files that are copied to disk, monitoring social media for breach of confidential information, or any type of public disclosure that falls under violation of code of conduct, etc.
Whenever someone is found browsing a job website or sending emails with a prospective employer or even making phone calls for a job interview their manager is immediately notified and we turn the matter over to Global Security investigation. Every case I've seen of this involves the employee receiving immediate termination. I'm very shocked that you were supervisor finds this behavior acceptable and I would expect him to take disciplinary action against you. If not, which I can understand, then likely his supervisor will be notified. I guess it depends if you're working at some mom and pop's store or if you're working at a established, professional organization. business

Uh, huh.
Global Security Investigation, eh? Is that like, the CIA within your "organization"?
Do they handcuff them and escort them off the premises as well?
Sorry, this just sounds like a BS story to me, and I've worked for a number of legit F500 corporations throughout my career.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing. An employee's information is private and to have it just out in the open like that does not seem right or professional.
Yeah no I wouldn't tell anyone that I work with that I'm interviewing. I wouldn't even go around telling anyone except immediate family and my references.
