I just got an email from my attorney.

It looks like that attorney sought help from a company, who would help remove these mugshot pages.

The contact from that company found 5 additional links, that I could not find from the Google/Bing/Yahoo search.

While I do not like this, I think I may have to seek the help of this company to remove these mugshot web pages.

Background checks are outsourced. They simply ask for counties you've lived and then check the public records and report those. I think they are usually only concerned with misdemeanors and felonies. The only googling would probably be done by HR.

Yes. Bona fide "background checks" would return results of criminal convictions. Googling might catch any kind of public record, which might include the police arrest blotter--which is often reported in the local papers.

Bottom line, so long as the information is just that "information" with no claim to be legitimate or accurate, you WILL NEVER get that information removed from the internet or search functions. You can get it to not show up, but that's only good until someone sells it or buys it elsewhere and it propagates all over gain. So long as it exists somewhere on some server or file, it can pop up. You must learn (and learn real quick) the difference between official records and information versus raw data and information.

As an employer, there are regulations both on the federal level and state levels that provides rules for running background checks. Many states have placed restriction on the use of unauthenticated data broker services. Unfortunately, so many people have cried and whined for a free and unencumbered internet. No rules, no restriction; let us have all the information someone makes available without anyone saying "no". The philosophy that whats on the internet is free for all to access has a dark side and this is one of them. Although I must use a legitimate background screening service, thousands of employers routinely resort to running people through data brokers and the results can easily lead to you not being hired or terminated for information you thought was private or invisible. And, you may never know what I know about you or how I came upon that information.
