I don't have statistics, but I'm afraid there are more people than there are jobs to be filled. And naturally, when it comes to really good jobs, I'm afraid that they are too few and are taken quickly. And those who secure such jobs stay in them until they're old enough to retire--which I suspect is later and later in life. I agree that it's very discouraging.

My experience has been that the corporate higher ups are only concerned with the short term projection of a company and therefor are trying to cut the fat wherever they can There are jobs out there, but they aren't worth two craps either salary wise/career projection wise. Most people are getting lowballed, companies are running on a skeleton crew with more 1-2 people doing the work of 3-5 people and the upper 1 percent are laughing all the way to the bank

Theres job opportunities out there but 85-90 percent aren't worth getting out of bed for in the morning quite frankly. And if you are making too much money, you have to be on the lookout for getting cut because the companies are first to cut those positions

What you experience isn't necessarily what the rest of us experience. There are plenty of jobs out there.

Plenty of Low paying below market wage jobs that dont keep up with inflation I agree. Theres PLENTY of them. All you need is to find about 5 of them at the same time and you'll be set. Of course you'll have to undergo a series of grueling interviews for these lousy jobs and take about 2-3 personality tests for each. But you'll be ok.\

Nothing like undergoing CIA-like entrance interviews for 30-40k a year. Gotta keep looking for those purple squirrels. You may as well search for Noah's Ark

This Country is a MESS. Bottom line

LOL. What about Mickey D's? I have enough experience as I'm close to 50, have real life experience, yet get rejected because I didn't pass a "personality test".

What kind of personality are they looking for?

But to answer your question - here in CA, I don't believe that there are many jobs available. Most companies seem to want to hire temps to do the work, but not hire them permanently. The temp companies string you along for about a year and then let you go.

Or - they want a Bachelor's degree for a clerk job.

Is there anywhere in the US where jobs are plentiful? I have heard that there are jobs out there that are not being filled because workers don't have the skills - I'd love to know what jobs those are..

A personality that will accept abuse. "can you be college educated and work for HS graduate wages?" type personality

It does stink. It is better when they find you.

Fed Chairwomen Janet Yellen disagree. The Fed reserve says the labor market is tight. Employers are having an incredibly difficult time finding qualified candidates. Mouth breathers who expect top dollar while bringing next to nothing to the bargaining table are a dime a dozen, like always.

Am retired. But my career choice was and is very much in demand. I chose law enforcement. Did my 25 years, retired at 46. Pension and free benefits for life.
Good luck and a field I would recommend to anyone looking for a stable job.
