Our company is allowing us to dress up for Halloween and wear our costumes to work. I've never considered wearing a costume to work, but now I am a bit excited and will be buying one today. We don't work face to face with customers or clients so I think it will be fine. What do you think about wearing costumes to work?

I've worked in places that allow costumes. It makes for a fun atmosphere. Just make sure the costume is suitable for work and comfortable to wear all day.

I work in a machine shop. It would be silly to dress up. I can just imagine a loose sleeve or string getting caught in some spindle or lathe, and the gruesome results that would inevitably follow. No thanks...

I think it's silly, but I remember one or two offices I worked in early in my career that allowed it. I don't think I've ever worn a costume for work.

Nope.

Every company I have worked for, and several of them huge corporate types, had some sort of Halloween festivities including a best costume winner, and some employees came to work dressed up.

People need to lighten up these days. Certainly I do not think coming to work dressed as a French maid or something offensive is appropriate, but nothing harmful in general. If you do not like it fine then do not participate or rain on other people's parades.

It's going to depend on the workplace (aforementioned machine shop being one) as well as company culture.

I'm old enough to remember when Halloween was a kid's holiday that has now been appropriated by adults, and not only off duty but at work.

Hell, we have parents here who take their kids around trick or treating who also have a candy bucket and expect a treat.

I never used to get into dressing up at work until I started working in a toxic environment. Now it's like therapy. Bring it on!

Go as one of those slutty nurses or slutty devils or slutty *insert any woman's costume here*. Not much material to snag on anything.

The only place I thought it was a REALLY bad idea for the workers to dress up was at the psych hospital next to the regular hospital I did my residency at.

I mean, that should go without saying.

I thought you went solo-own business. Have you returned to working for an employer again?
