I've worked at four employers over the past 10 years and each has matched. Three were 6% and one was 5%.

I'm self-employed so fund my own retirement, but both of my 20 something children receive up to a 3% match with a generous maximum. Being smarter than their parents, they both maximize their contributions.

I just got an offer letter. 3% match. My last full time job was a 3% safe harbor. I'd had 401(k) plans since the 1990's and it was 2014 before I had any employer contribution at all. I've always been a small company guy in high tech. The comp is high so most employers feel no obligation to kick in on a 401(k).

4% match if I put in 5%. I've been with current employer for 10 years and it's always been this way.

I work in government and I have a "deferred compensation account" which is similar to a 401k and my employer matches my contributions up to a certain percentage. It's voluntary, as we have a state funded pension system as well.

Any time an employer is going to give you free money, you're stupid not to take it.

I've never worked at a company where they didn't have a match. That said - not all of them would start matching from day 1. Some made you wait a quarter, or started the matching at the 1st day of the next quarter.

I've also been at two places where they don't even allow you to participate in the 401K until after a year of employment. But I'd say these companies were less in-tune with the world around them. They also had other aspects that were outdated/archaic.

Stumbled on to this after I retired from the Army

My company (Tanana Chiefs Conference , Alaska) deposits an amount equal to 7% of my pay into a 403b, no contribution necessary from me. I have to work here 4 years to be fully vested, 2 1/2 years so far.
I have an additional 24k deposited over the year to that 403b.
30 paid days off, 12 holidays off, free health insurance
Extra pay and per diem to occasionally work in remote areas

Best investment - receive a pension and healthcare for military service

Dollar for dollar match on the 401k up to 5%. Plus a pension. In my experience in the corporate world, the matching funds by employers are still more common than not, though the percentages obviously vary from place to place.

It's the pension that shocks me. I thought those things were dead in the water for private sector workers. Boy did I feel loved when I found out my company still rides the pension-train ...
