My coworker refused to work with me. She would barely acknowledge me when I needed to ask her a work related question. I noticed if there was a group conversation going on she would give everyone eye contact but me. If I or someone included me in on a group conversation she would leave. She was nice to me the first year pretty much but one day everyone was talking about voting and I told someone quietly [whom I supported in the presidential election] (please no lectures about not talking politics at work, I know that, and this was an isolated incident). After that is when I noticed the change. She has Obama pics at her desk and recently went off on how much she hated Trump. So one day she was being so difficult to work with I talked to my supervisor about it. Put it diplomatically that I just wanted some advice on how I can get along with her and I was concerned etc....I should have went to her directly but am not good with confrontation. So anyways, my supervisor told her what I said, she denied it and my supervisor pretty much sided with her (funny since they couldn’t stand each other before my my supervisor became supervisor). Now she hasn’t spoken to me in 6 months. She is extra nice to everyone else I will try to smile if I pass her in the hall but she will not ever look my way. She knows exactly how she was treating me....I don’t believe she wasn’t aware of how she was acting. Now I’m assuming she thinks I’m Mod cut. Not sure what else to do. It’s sucks being hated. I know she has had a lot of trouble with her many years there (many sick days, personal calls, being unpleasant etc....) but not much ever came of that, when other people were warned or fired for same issues.

Nothing you can do. You earned this one. You voted for a candidate and discussed that at work in the most divisive political climate ever, with a candidate that fueled the fires of hatred.

This is why I avoid politics at work like the plague. There is nothing you can do now. Keep all conversations with her professional and otherwise ignore her.

Mod cut.

Hey Adrian! Fellow Mod cut. supporter here. [snip] Sorry to hear your tale of woe, I totally hear you. It does suck being hated. Try not to let this co-worker get to you (easier said than done). Hold your head up high and take the high road. Plaster on a big old smile and try to steer clear of her. Again, I so hear you, and I feel your pain. Mod cut.

This shouldn't be an issue. Just steer clear of her and stop trying.

I'm in the Deep South, so of course I work with many Mod cut. supporters--some who have said much more than you did, since all you did was mention it once. I still behave in a professional manner toward coworkers and don't bring up politics (whether I agree with the coworkers' views or not). She should be able to do the same, but if she's been completely unwilling to speak to you over the course of six months, I wouldn't hold out hope that she's going to change. I think you should just continue to be polite. It's inconvenient if you have a work-related question and she won't even acknowledge you, but it sounds like you've done all you can to try to fix the situation.

The only reason I would take it further is if you *need* to communicate with her for work purposes. Can you get your job done without talking to her? If so, I wouldn't bring it up to your supervisor again.

Ignore her behavior and make sure your job performance beats hers every day of the week.

It's the ONLY way to beat people out at work OR at politics.

I agree. I've witnessed this exact scenario at my office. The coworker who condemned the Mod cut. supporter is my friend. There is nothing the [snip] supporter can do to win her back.
