I'm not sure I've ever worked where someone got fired.
Had a boss that got drunk at lunch every Friday
receptionist that faked a back injury after getting in an accident in a company car, not wearing a seatbelt. She was still there when I left.
a couple people who ran side businesses on company time; tax preparation, music distribution
And of course our mayor used his county procurement card to buy a surfboard, booze, and evenings out at hostess bars. Not even a slap on the wrist.
How about buying horse hay at a service station with the company credit card.
Another man out sick had a furniture store call for employment verification so he could buy a sofa. He was no longer employed.
Another man's wife drove the company car and wrecked it while he was out of town on business.
The horse hay person later ended up in prison when he started his own computer business and was adding money to his account at the bank he was working in when the employees allowed him to keep working while they went to lunch.
Yesterday though she was caught on camera taking from the vending machines and also picking up a thing of honey and actually squirting it in her mouth.
I don't understand what you mean by taking from the vending machines, did she have the keys? If so, why would a security guard need keys to the vending machines? I need more details here. I can see reviewing the security camera footage is something goes missing or there an incident, but is management so anal they have to review camera footage every night? Not a place I want to work for in the first place.
As for the stupids things to get fired for, when I worked at a casino, there was football memorabilia locked in a cubicle for a high roller promotion (yes you could climb over the walls) and some of the marketing staff were caught on camera stealing signed footballs, etc from the cubicle.

Steal a $60 disconnect switch. The stupid thing was we were pulling out used but perfectly good disconnects which sadly were better than what we were installing. Not only that but we were throwing out the old disconnects. i sold them all in eBay for $300 for a bulk item listing
I have seen a number of stupid things that people have done that got them fired, but I think this one takes the cake. I work for a security company and we walk up and down lots of stairs checking the building for anything, whether they be intruders, something wrong, etc. typical stuff. One of the floors is owned by a telecom company and we aren't supposed to take anything from the vending machines or use anything from the commissary. There are of course cameras. Anyway, last week we had a new hire, she seemed nice enough if a little ditzy. Yesterday though she was caught on camera taking from the vending machines and also picking up a thing of honey and actually squirting it in her mouth. Yeah, my boss and those that have that floor were NOT happy. She was subsequently fired obviously.
Amazing how dumb people can be.
Ok... Maybe I'm stupid... but what's up with the vending machine?
Did she break the glass, pry it open... and stole honey or did she but quarters in and paid for it.
Does your company not allow you to use vending machines? I get that if she stole from it she would be fired...but what's the deal in this case??
I'm guessing the vending machine issue was items were free from the machine.
My list. This is healthcare:
-Coming to work drunk
-Drinking at work
-Hitting a coworker
-Stealing money from patients
-Stealing narcotics
There was a guy in another department who was caught by IT logging onto dating websites 20-30 times a day. Instead of turning him in the IT guy called him and told him to stop. He didn't.

I used to work at a Country Club and the job was very easy - just show up and work about 2 hours out of a 6 hour shift; still, some folks just couldn't handle all the free time and guy I was friends with just stopped showing up to work regularly. I would call him and ask where he was and he just would say he didn't feel like working. He would come in like every 3rd day. Still took about 3 weeks for him to get fired.
Another place I worked in Sales gave corporate AMEX cards to all their sales employees. One guy used the card to charge a vacation to Europe and then promptly quit when he got back. He was later sued but again the process to settle took months.
Another man's wife drove the company car and wrecked it while he was out of town on business.

Interesting...since company insured vehicles cover the family drivers too. Usually the deductible is the onus, of the employee. I hope the employer didn't write on the formal termination document as this being the reason. Our company has had claims from the employees spouse when a deer hit it or they were tboned. Not once did we terminate the employee... we followed the insurance guidelines for claims and deductibles. And yes on occasion we have removed the privilege of use of a company car. Let me know how this employee challenged this termination based solely on an insurance matter.
I worked at one of those fancy grocery stores in Chicago. This guy got fired for stealing soup tucked in his bag. The retired police officer the store hired would be waiting at the end of the side walk searching bags..the thing that makes this story sad was we all made nothing. I think it was 7.79 in Chicago which was horrific. This guy lived an hour by train to live in very cheap apartments and was super skinny.
I know it's still stealing but he had that soup in his bag to really just eat as he could not afford it. I then heard he would take toilet paper and other items. I then realized, I too, made the same amount and never took any items. So...hopefully, he learned a valuable lesson but still sad when I think about him
