Do you think having an engagement ring as a female means something to them like that I am going to have a baby & leave? (I'm not. I don't want kids).
But I mean things like this do happen. I am getting married this summer.
I do wonder if things like that influence company's decisions. Perhaps I should take it off next time I interview?
is it a legit concern?
I didn't get a job due to not having wife/children. The interviewers (Town Council) felt that I'd not stick with the job if I didn't have a better reason to stay then caring for myself...Go figure!
Of course, it also could be that you're a female. So guys actually are scared of strong females who know what they want.
Nobody in this economy is gonna take on a new hire for $90K, unless you were already making ober $150K. Even then you'll get rounded back down to $100K.

That's not true, when I was 29 a few years ago I was making 95k with a manger title. I told them I made 75k which was true, they offered $85,000. I countered at $88,000 and they accepted. A month later I received another job offer, when back to my job and they countered at 95k with a 10% sign on bonus. I had only been there a month but they felt I was very valuable and were willing to pay. These type of companies are probably rare. But I think it all depends on the field you are in and your competition at the time. There is always someone better than you, but did they apply to the same job you did is the question.
I'm job searching now and throw out high numbers just to see if anyone will bite, after hitting 100k I noticed it takes me about a year to find someone who is willing to pay more where as before I could find a job in 2-3 months. But if you are in a rush to find something new then maybe I would try lowering the salary, if not just keep interviewing and the perfect job will come up.

Possibly your high demand of salary is the reason why you are not landing any job. I have a feeling that you are asking at least 6 figures, and some company is simply not willing to pay for a high salary when they can hire someone with a lower salary. I know you said you get what you paid for, but for company, it really doesn't matter.

OP, what you are worth is determined by what the market will pay, not what you believe yourself to be worth.
So if you believe you're worth 90K, and you can't find a job that will pay you that, that means your market value is less than 90K.
I can say my car is worth 10K, but unless I can find someone willing to pay that, my car isn't worth that.
I suspect you're asking for more $ than you're worth. They like you, they are impressed by you, but when it all comes down to it, you don't add 90K of value to the company so they pass.

Do you have any prerequisite connections at the companies you are applying for? They may already have their candidates. They are just interviewing to give certain impressions to the shareholders etc.
90k?? You have to be willing to work for 50k and do the job of 3 people at once
