Really? I haven't found that to be the case at all. I'm very well compensated, work from home, no timesheets, no micromanaging. Some days, I might work a couple of hours. Others, when I'm on travel on customer-facing events, I might be "on the clock" for a lot more, but nobody's counting. So long as I get results and make my meetings and appointments, nobody cares how I spend my time.
In my experience, those who are always bellyaching like this are people who are easily replaceable... no real differentiating skills, no real work ethic, no real motivation. They want to plod through the days doing the minimum necessary. Problem is, there are millions more just like that, making each plodder easily replaceable. Anyone who wants to can make themselves irreplaceable, and they'll always have employers eager to throw compensation packages at them.
