I hope all is well

After 2 years of looking, in November 2017, I got my first job. The only drawback for me is that the job is not in line with my career goals (I want to be a geriatric social worker and the job is a full-time front desk receptionist at a tennis club).

Yesterday, a college career advisor e-mailed me a job opportunity that coincides with my career goals (program assistant for a non-profit that focuses on community care for the elderly) and I really want to pursue it. But with only 4 months at this job, I don't want to ruin the relationship with my employer(s) who I will rely on in the future for references.

What should I do?? Has anyone been in this situation before? please advise.

Thanks!
Get an offer first before stressing yourself out about it. Then if you feel its a better fit, make the move. Your current job doesn't seem like much of a "career" anyways.

Totally agree with this!

First, you might not be offered the job after the interview, second this is your life. No one is making you stay anywhere. If you want to take the other job if offered, then go for it! My mom used to tell me stories about how my grandfather (who had 8 kids) would go to interviews on his munch break and if they offered him 10 cents more an hour he wouldn't go back to his job and start right away! This was in the 40's, but you get my point. Most employers are not looking out for your best interest. YOU need to do that and if this other job is more in line with your goal than go for it!

I would honestly say go for it. I accepted a job in November for IT Specialist in which I got my BS in and Certifications in. But now that I am in the position I feel that I need something that gets me out and about like my old job, not stuck at a desk all day doing compliance checks and audits. So I applied for a Telecommunications Specialist job in which I have 15 years experience in and I got an email today for a interview for the job I applied for. So I am mixed as well but overall I am happy right now.
