Why do you think an entire generation told their kids they better get a college degree or else.
The poorest of the poor would never have been accepted into college in the same rate as today...

If they got through college back then, they were more skilled than you give them credit for

You do realize it takes more than landing a good job to turn it into a career right?

Namely they were skilled enough to keep that good job long enough to make it a career. A degree has nothing to do with that, they did it all with their own skills

Look around you, how often do you see people with degrees quitting jobs? So much for a degree = career when they walk away from it. Average tenure was something like 6-8 years from last stats I saw. That isn't a long "career"

It has always been that way.

What hasn't though is the whole oh you only have 2 years experience when we want 3, automatic no hire, oh you only have experience as an admin asst in industry A, not B, automatic no hire, oh you have been unemployed for over 6 months, automatic no hire, oh you have never used our proprietary software program but are an expert in three other programs that do the same thing, automatic no hire....... and all this even though you have the education, skills and experience to get the job done.

But we just can't find anyone to hire they say. Gee, I wonder why that is.....

Of course the person has to perform, but the degree is the catylast. It was instant access which is why the entire country beat into their kids, you better go to college. They didn't say you better just be successful no need to get that degree.

Tell us how buying back shares results in padding their pockets. I'm curious about how that works.

The big difference between 50 years ago and today, is the jobs have changed from manual labour then, and the manual part has been changed to sophisticated jobs requiring all together different skills.

I an 86 years old, and was raised on a very large ranch at a time 1/3rd of working Americans were required to feed the nation. Today it takes 1.5% of working people to the same job.

If we used the same telephone systems as were used in 1950, there would not be enough working women to fill the need for telephone operators. I am not picking on women but the people that found this statistic, used this as women were almost the only ones doing this job back then.

The world has changed, and companies are hiring people with education that makes collage or training required to do the job.

It is going to get even more important to get educated. Experts tell us that in just 10 years, over half of Americans will be working at jobs that have not even been invevted yet.

The official calculation method is published online.

Also, how can Trump take credit for allegedly bringing jobs yet discrediting the very metric that would back up his claims.

Don't drink the Trump koolaid. It makes one stupid.

Shares are ownership in PUBLIC companies. Buying back shares means more money stays in house. Thus padding their pockets.
