For me work full time 40 hours with commute about 50 hours a week dedicated to work. Usually I worked eves most of the time. However, this year work has me on all 3 shifts in a week. So I know my schedule 4 weeks in advance but could so 2 nights 2 eves 1 day or whatever combo you can think of LOL.
I could technically work a 2nd job. However, usually with schedule and work environment feel drained. Some days could end up getting 1 to 3 hours of sleep.
Usually try to pick up 1 extra shift a month. Usually the Boss is good doesn't schedule you to work shifts with quick turnovers. Though sometimes I do make switches that cause quick turnarounds for me or work 16 hour shifts.
Though I am starting to realize every 2 months like to have a little break at times with 3 to 5 days off in a row to recuperate.
Mine is 6am to 2:30pm which is pretty good for avoiding Seattle traffic... an hour later in the morning or evening and it's much worse. My commute is 35-45 mins each way.
When we are busy though all bets are off. 2 weeks ago I did 80 hours... and week ending yesterday I did 107... a new personal best for me. 6 15 hour days and a 17 hour day. I was going in at either 4am or 5am the entire week... home in time to take a shower and be in bed within a half hour.
Food consisted of lunch meat and other easy stuff I kept at work. It's been a crazy couple weeks but it's all overtime. No way I do this on salary for obvious reasons. These long hours are supposed to continue until we complete this project which isn't until September... right before I go on vacation.
I work 8-5, Mon-Fri, and I am salaried. I occasionally work longer hours, but rarely more than a 50 hour week, and that is balanced by the occasional shorter week.
I don’t work a second job because I earn enough not to. I prefer to spend my non-work time with family and hobbies that I find enjoyable and entertaning. .
Leave home 9, get into office 9:30, lunch 1:30-3, leave 4:15. Yeah it's pretty good, still sucks to be at work instead of reading in the park (although I do that a few times a week during offie hours too ha) or biking, hiking, etc. No 2nd job, I'm too lazy and make more than enough to not have one.
I'm efficient at my job when I'm actually working so this isn't (not totally) a Peter Gibbons, "I do 15 minutes of actual work in a given week" situation.
Leave house at 7:30, office by about 8:00 am. Work 8-9 hours per day, home between 5 or 5;30 pm M-F. Very occasional hours for a special project on Saturday. Volunteer at the local library 2 nights a week because I enjoy it and they need it. I have paid leave every year but don't usually take more than a couple of days at a time. Happen to like my job.
Then they begged me to return so I set conditions: Just 20 hours per week with the same pay as I got working full time. They agreed!
This is a sweet deal. I highly recommend it. Consider that 20 hours is a 12% load. Not bad.
