Referred for multiple fed jobs...no security clearance required...tried to start a business and lost everything..credit sucks...behind on payments for everything including student loans...need the job to get current on payments...jobs are for the forest service, natural resource specialist and nepa planner...
With a fed job what are chances with the bad credit? I am getting response for other jobs that I am overqualified and am trying fed jobs...

If selected, you will have a background check. If you don't need a security clearance and aren't in a fiduciary job handling budgets, funding, contracting, you'll probably be ok.

The thing is as an outsider new to the federal government, you'll have a long process ahead of you. Many jobs are limited to career employees or self-selected jobs in name only where they already have a preferred candidate but HR is making them do a public notice.

You need income now. You won't hear back from most government job sometimes for YEARS.

I've gotten jobs before with bad credit. As long as you aren't handling money it's fine. My credit wasn't that good before applying for the F500 I am in now. Due to unemployment of course.

From the time I submitted my application to the time I started my current fed job was about 6 weeks as an outsider. That is really no different from any other job. Other jobs can take months or even years, but you never know until you apply. I was given an interim clearance and the actual screen took about 8 months.

Correct, except for the last sentence. HR doesn't just "make" them do a public notice. Depending on what the position is, in what series, at what grade, the hiring official may have had the option of flying a vacancy to "all qualified candidates (inside or outside federal government doesn't matter)" or to "status candidates only" within a bureau, an agency, the local commuting area, etc. It isn't always dictated by HR. I have been given that choice for some positions. There are pros and cons to each. Yes, there's always the chance they have an internal applicant hoping for the job, but they still have to compete for it. The hiring official may hope someone better is out there, so they chose an open vacancy announcement deliberately.

OP the "bad credit" isn't the problem. They are looking for illegal activity, unsatisfied judgments, fraud, and such.
