Typing, outdated?

How about shorthand? That's really outdated!

I graduated from secretarial college in 1980. To this day, whatever I'm listening to, I still find myself picturing the shorthand symbols in my head. As years went by, it was more and more a "novelty" to have a secretary who could take shorthand. Older bosses especially didn't like dictaphone equipment. I had one boss who said he wanted to "look at a face across the desk" when dictating. It wasn't being sexist, he just skipped around a lot while dictating, working on sometimes two or three letters at once...it was handy having me there to help him find his place. At other places, if they needed anyone to take minutes at meetings, I made some brownie points for myself.

I admit to a giggle. Wonder if the pay dates back to the 1960’s too!
Typing is not "obsolete". And by "adding machine", they may very well mean 10-key, which is also decidedly not obsolete.
