Just filled out a job app and submitted my resume for an entry level clerical..teller job at a bank. On the company online job applications asked for social media “links” to my info. On the application. One line specifically requested my LinkedIn link. And any other social media accounts. Uh...no. The requirement to move forward in the interview process also includes a one hour online “assessment”to be completed before 5 days after submission of resumes. Anyone else have to fulfill these requests?
No, I have never encountered this, but I haven’t looked for a job in a few years either. My employer does not ask for these things.
I can understand asking for LinkedIn. After all, isn’t business networking the entire point of LinkedIn? As for other social media accounts, did the application say you must provide a link, or did it say you could provide a link?
I would not provide social media links for an application. While I am not as zealous in keeping my work and personal lives separate as some on this forum, my personal life is still one of my employers business.
It's okay for them to ask for your linkedin profile. One of the main points of having a linkedin account, is for prospective employers to view it. Any professionally sophisticated person should understand that and not be offended.
I maintain a shadow set of social media accounts - Facebook and Twitter - for professional use. I check in every few months or so just to keep the accounts current. If any future employer would insist on seeing them, they'll think me someone who rarely spends time on such pursuits.
I used to be a teller. The online assessment is very common. It's just a personality test. You should have enough sense to see what the right answer is.
I don't see what the big deal is about giving them a link to your linkedin or w/e page. Odds are, they'll just search for your name if you don't provide it.
If you are the type of person who gets pissed off over silly requests, you'll definitely hate being a teller at any major bank.

They can ask....not really disputing the “asking”. I am just not going to supply the info. Any “professionally sophisticated” employer can do a search. Not sure the word “offended” was even mentioned.
