And that is why threads like these are meaningless. Woohoo low wage jobs are out there, but nothing is posted about the types of jobs such as pay, part time, contract, etc.

Let's see if the OP can answer that, otherwise this thread is a complete bust.

Big news story on our local radio station today that a call center/warehouse for an internet company is going to hire 600-1000 more people. The pay rate - $12.50-$14.hr. The talk show host shouted with glee, "See, our economy is booming." I see tons of help wanted signs locally for fast food and retail. Again, not the best pay. Also, part-time jobs. However, things are slowly improving, slowly, for decent paying jobs Not saying they aren't and it is going to take some time for those jobs to appear at a rapid rate like the others.

I agree with everybody else.

Many vacant job openings are not a labor shortage, but it's due to the salary or hours being too low. I see the same jobs posted by the employers for months and the rate is not increased.

Many of these jobs would have gone to H1B visa in the past. With the clamp down H1B approvals, the positions stay open due to low salary.

$12 hr is good pay for people with no/low skills. Plus you get exposure to retail, vendor management, and supply chain. People with the right attitude and vision can use this job as a springboard to the future.

Good pay for someone who doesn't have any bills to pay.

This is a bunch of crap. Why are people applying to hundreds of jobs to get one? There are jobs going unfilled because employers do not want to train.

Actually, I predict that the office desk/computer jobs will be the new sweatshops in the future and that people will be wanting the hands on jobs and that they, not the office or programmer ones, will be the new high paying jobs. (At least, unless importation of crimmigrants creates a massive surplus to pull down wages.)
