I think that companies just want younger and younger people.

I love this story. My daughter wanted to work as a teenager, but most employers couldn't hire her because of the child labor laws. I think those laws started out meaning well, but went too far. When kids want to work, but aren't allowed to - they have too much time on their hands to get into trouble.

So, I say, let them work. They're capable. And if they want to - let them.

And, yes, they are such naturals as far as technology is concerned. I think this is great.

It is a convenience thing for managers. I work retail at my second job. Under age 18, their hours on closing shifts are very limited combined with they are not allowed to use the freight elevator to take stock down to the first floor to put away. The jobs most of them get are the lowest rung for the most part until they prove themselves. (which is not always that long. One your female came in age 17. She was promoted 2 times, the last one on her 18th birthday to a low level supervisory role)

Younger means cheaper. That's what companies want. It is all about the money. Companies nowadays would hang themselves for an extra dollar.

Yep. Skills, experience, value are out the window these days. The joke is on them at the end of the day however. At the end of the day, you need veterans around to know what works and what doesn’t and the right people to get things done correctly and efficiently. You can’t play it cheap forever.

My company went “lay-off and millennial hiring crazy” a few years back and you should see the turnover and operational deficiencies at my company now. They cant even keep anyone for a year and there’s troubled facilities operationally and a loss of customers all throughout the company. Business is going to the competitors at a rapid pace. It’s probably only a matter of 2-3 years that we get bought out

Dorian, you are a dose of reality !

You have what I think is the way America was meant to be from the beginning. But that seems to be lost to the mainstream of American society today judging from the politics we see every day being broadcast on news networks and social media.

There are labor shortages partly because you don't have migrant workers doing them anymore and the European Americans won't "stoop that low" and can't stick with it. Wages just aren't attractive.

My thinking is where is the compassion and common sense of billionaires and millionaires holding on to so much money? If just a few of them got together and donated the money to drill water wells down into aquifers and re-claim desert lands to fields and trees the dying millions would be saved. Is your state facing a water crisis or farm land turning to dust? There is tested technology to fix all of this available right now. But instead the rich are building hotels and casinos.

Companies these days will say anything to hide the fact that age discrimination is alive and well.
Even then, tide's been turning there. For example, Indian immigrant workers are opting NOT to come to the US since their wages have gone up back at home. It's enough to make the prospect of coming to the US simply not worth it. I'm guessing hearing all the stories of what's going in the US didn't help either.

That’s correct, but where do you go? Norway, Germany you would have to learn a new language and move far far away. Plus they would have to let you in.

I am sure some people are trying
