I get to work from home and do as much or as little as I want. I get to talk to nice people as I go about town to conduct my duties, but I can also choose not to talk to anyone all day. I get to be creative, and my coworker is phenomenal.
I have flex hours and can work early. I have interesting co-workers. I enjoy my work for the most part. Downsides are feast or famine. The work is either on hold for approvals and documentation and then when it comes your way you are slammed. Many internet sites are blocked by firewalls but city-data is not. Must be because we do a lot of research online (for J&A's, etc) and city-data has the word "data" in it's name.
I'm self-employed. The best thing is the flexibility. I can take kids to doctor's appointments, go to the grocery store, decide to go to the beach, or whatever, whenever I want. I just schedule myself in whatever manner works well for me.
Ditto! I can set my own hours for the most part.
The negative is that it's hard to turn "off". I have my phone on DND from 9pm-9am.
I'll go first. I can take off time for personal appointments without a problem. I do check e-mail with my cell phone, but if I need to go to the dentist I go and it doesn't count against PTO.
Once I hand off my things to my relief, I'm done. No phone, no email, no obligation. I have zero responsibility from there on out. I'm away for four to five days unless I put in for some overtime.
I'm happy with the pay, though it's nothing that the yuppies on this forum would write home about.
Commute is great, environment is fairly pleasant, at least physically.
The work itself, that's another issue.
