I agree that many people studying psych or other counseling fields (substance abuse) are really looking for answers to their own or loved one's problems.
Otoh, a good counselor is a godsend.

It’s hilarious. What did the evil psych major do to these people? I can’t stop laughing when I think about the people I know who have psych degrees. Well, maybe one was manipulative towards some of the men she knew, but she was phenomenal at sales. A person doesn’t have to have a psych degree to be a *****. The majority I know are kind and caring, very helpful, balanced, and mostly doing well.

Schooling is no substitute for intelligence. Some people have it, it won't matter what they study, while others don't, and again it won't matter what they study.

On the other hand it is Psych majors behind the evil plot to pump the smells of fresh baking bread and cookies into the bakery department of grocery stores. And to maybe hand out a small sample to taste.

Just try a bite, Dear. . .

Lord only knows what their scheming Grandmas must have done to them.

Marketing psychologists are the Chloe psychics of the psych world.

My wife hypnotizes me all the time and makes me do the housework. She then makes me talk about my mother.

Psychology is one of those BS degrees you see someone have trying to become a business manager.

Since I've worked in the criminal justice and social services fields for a long time, I know many people with degrees in psychology. From what I've heard from them, it's hard to break into human resources with just an undergrad in psych.

Over the years, I've come across many idiots in HR, and most did not have degrees in psych. In my opinion, HR is one of the professional fields with the highest concentration of stupid people. Recently, I had to school an HR manager on employment law.

Most degrees are becoming more and more useless truth be told. Even STEM degrees that were so highly coveted at one time are becoming useless. Unless you plan on continuing education past the bachelors level, a psychology degree is pointless to attain. Save yourself the debt. Learn or trade or spend more time on networking as opposed to higher education

I'd tend to agree that an undergrad degree in Psychology has a very grim job prospects. It's the type of field that requires the student to go all the way up in the grad school food chain.

With that said, this doesn't necessarily mean a person with an undergrad psy degree lacks skills.

So depending on the skills and the specific requirements of a job, hiring someone with a psy degree for a specific job to be a smart business decision.

Statements to the effect of "never hire someone with X degree" is something that makes no sense to me. At all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
