I was mostly wanting to know how to address the manager. It's a serious problem that I want to keep from actually happening....to be looking for a job with a specific schedule that fits my availability, get that job, then have all that completely changed.
I figured I better say something right away, since it is something that would cause me to immediately start looking for another job.
Do you have anything about work hours in your offer letter?
If so, just point at that.
If no, you’ll need to just let your manager know, in writing, that you are unable to work that shift as you were offered a different shift at hire.
I had unemployment before this job. And used it up. I can get unemployment again in about 2 months.
During training I took all kinds of shift changes, because I thought it was temporary. But there has been stress on me. I have been drinking a lot of coffee and have had sharp chest pains. I deal with it. I stop and breath lightly.
First of all, knock off the excessive coffee drinking. The caffeine is likely causing the chest pains. I saw a lot of this at work. It got so bad with people consuming 4/5 energy drinks in an 8 hour day that the squad had to be called to haul them to the hospital.
Secondly, you sound like you aren’t 100% positive that this schedule change is actually going to happen. You aren’t in control of your schedule, your supervisor is. Therefore unless/until such change happens do not let your emotions run wild over this. You have options, such as seeking employment elsewhere. You always have that option. Even if you like your current job, that is not a reason to stay if the work schedule doesn’t work for you. You can find another job that you like that has a schedule that works for you.
Hang in there and see how this plays out. Only when you know for certain about the schedule is it time to take action.
I emailed the manager. To let him know that its not the schedule we discussed. He has not replied back in hours
MISTAKE! You should have requested a face to face meeting to discuss this. Email is never appropriate for what you are asking. As to the boss not answering back in hours, he/she is probably spending valuable time trying to understand what this is all about before responding to you. Which i’d be surprised if you do get an email response. I know I wouldn’t respond that way. I would go through your direct supervisor and set up a time when all three of us could meet to discuss this.

I agree with the other poster. Switch to decaf coffee to wean yourself off it. Decaf coffee will still have a small amount out caffeine, but it will be much easier on your heart and blood pressure.
I just started a job. During the interview I was told the hours/schedule. I was asked what I would like for the hours and schedule. This was repeated a couple times at least and also matched the ad for the job. Now a couple weeks in, I was told my schedule may be completely different and it would also be a very difficult schedule I couldn't keep in the long run.
This is kind of awkward and upsetting. I've just started the job and was mislead if this is true. I'm not sure what to say to my employer. I need the job, but I'm not ok with having my schedule flipped. I would like to fix the situation and have my scheduled agreed to during the hiring process. But if not, I don't want to make a huge fuss and get fired. I'll just look for a job that fits my schedule.
Welcome to the working world. Managers do this all the time. In fact, if I were to go into a job interview today, I wouldn't believe half of what is told to me, whether it involves job duties, hours, pay, benefits, whatever. I once interviewed for a job that I could work around my college classes. It was sure, no problem, we have a lot of college students working for us! The week after I started, my schedule was changed and I was told that I'd have to decide between a job or my college classes. Did they seriously expect me to stay there? I had another job in a week.
A lot of this crap stopped when the economy got going so good because managers needed new hires so bad, but it looks likes it's creeping back.
Bosses and managers have the right to schedule you any way they please. But you also have the right to not stay there and work that schedule if you don't like it.

I will look for another job if the schedule is bad for me. I can't help but be frustrated that I have heard that the schedule may be completely different than what I was told when interviewing. Sure they can do whatever they want, but that is dishonest and wrong. That's really great to know that even if I get another job, they may mislead me as well.

You may be right that face to face is best. The manager is my direct supervisor and out of town.
I don't work when most people are in the office. Email is the form of communication for scheduling and I replied to the email that was sent to me.
Everyone works on a regular schedule but me, having started recently, due to training with other workers. I just wanted to know when I will be working. I don't think that an unusual request.
