The Opportunity to be Interviewed But Not Hired Continues...

https://www.linkedin.com/feed/news/g...rsity-4966946/

Goldman Sachs has decided to specifically waste time for Women and Minorities by demanding arbitrary quotas that at least 2 diversity candidates have to be interviewed for every position.

I have consulted for GS in the past and know first hand they are already quite diverse at the Junior level...And their intern pool is already incredibly diverse. There is no need for this. Goldman Sachs is practically 25% Indian, 25% Jewish/European, 25% East Asian and 25% other.

What solves the diversity problem in leadership however, is one thing they refuse to get at though at most institutions (financial or not) - Dismantle the Good Ole' Boys Club.

Interviews mean nothing if when it comes down to it you're doing it just for show. This will set a bad precedent and further waste more candidates time instead of interviewing people you truly intend to hire.

The hiring process has become too consensus based, drawn out and rife with legal formalities. It should not take 3 months to hire an entry level analyst making 50-60k at an organization where the AVERAGE salary is $120-150k annually.

As a minority I do not believe this will help minorities in general or ensure that young talent in general does not leave the bank. On the Marcus product nearly 100% of staff that originally worked on that project is now gone. They need to fix their arbitrary rules like No WFH for most employees (even those that don't deal with sensitive information), slow PTO accumulation for new hires and grueling hours to meet arbitrary internally set deadlines for political projects (of interest to select Sr. leadership to pat themselves on the back and add to their portfolio) which yield little positive stock price or profitability growth.

Who cares? They aren't doing anything illegal and it's their money. They can choose how they want to spend it.

I understand that you don't like it. Simply don't apply there, then.

How are they defining "diversity"?

Sounds like through superficial characteristics. Skin color. Sex. Race.

Utterly phony.

Names are generally easy enough to determine sex, but I wonder how they identify person of color. HR shouldn't be sharing EEOC information with the hiring manager, and the EEOC is very clear that employers need to be neutral and subjective when hiring.

I've been the "diversity" candidate in countless job interviews; I can tell when I'm the "diversity" candidate because I am asked absurdly esoteric questions about code structures or DBMS features that almost nobody actually uses and that are irrelevant to the job description. Those answers are then used to disqualify those who cannot answer them....but the candidates they really want are not asked those questions.

No reason to think this won't be any different at Goldman Sachs.

They are checking some boxes to try and make themselves look better, as many companies do.

Yeah it can be hard knowing whether they are just a bunch of hillbillies and don't want "brown and black folk" in or just plain dysfunctional. In NYC I lean on the assumption that they are just plain dysfunctional and don't want anyone actually competent in the role to show them up.

Which is it? Are they divers as you state in the first post or are they only looking for a bunch of hillbillies.

I am also wondering what you mean by a bunch of hillbillies. It almost seems to say that you are thinking that hillbillies are all the white people and that would seem to be a racist statement.

Whether illegal or not, their tactics will become known, and speak for themselves. Even bad advertising is still advertising. Let the scumbags rot. Potential employees and customers will wisely go elsewhere. All the visible racist propagation is building a much less visible counter force to ultimately overtake it.

Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence.
