That was how I originally read it, as well (though, just because they have to lie to HR about the nature of the job-- or, at least, lie to HR's paperwork-- doesn't mean they had to lie to OP about what the job would be). But then OP wrote this (bolding mine):

Which then sounds like no, nothing is actually changing-- including the part-time status of what she's currently doing. That's why I got confused, because it sounds like a lot of subterfuge and jumping through hoops to keep her doing the exact same thing she's been doing, but just have it look different on paper.
