I could see posting something on your own wall if you were particularly closed or were impacted by it. I don't know why the person thought it was OK to reach out to management under any circumstances.

Did they "reach out"? Or were they having a conversation with another friend and said "Hey, I heard Dissenter is leaving"?

FWIW, when information is posted on SM, I presume that I'm one of the last people to know and that it's public knowledge at that point.

Only reveal what you've done, never reveal what you're planning.

OP, if anyone, you should be mad at yourself for being a dumbass and posting your personal business on social media. No matter who you "block" or if set something to "private" or whatever, everyone still knows about it and most see it when others screenshot it and send it to each other. Setting something to private or blocking certain people is a complete joke and waste of time. People like to talk about other people and many like to stir the pot and start trouble......especially some "friends."

I am going with concensus here.

OP bears most of the blame, former coworker a bit of it, although the info may have flipped in an innocent conversation. Management bears no blame, they are just doing their job.

Call it 85/15/0.

I think it's super low that a former co worker called the current boss.

A post asked if the person who told, "reached out" to the boss, or was just in a conversation and just casually said, "did you know, or have you heard, Dissenter is leaving"

Well if the person who told doesn't even work there anymore, I'd say the person ran and told and couldn't wait to spread the news and maybe cause trouble for the OP.

Otherwise, I suppose the tattler just happened to stay friends with the old boss, and just happened to stay in contact with the person, and just happened to call/talk to that former boss after the OP just happened to post the job prospect info. But then again I'm not on social media sites like that. Maybe it is always assumed that if you post it, it IS common knowledge. So it is quite possible I don't understand the dynamic of that world.
