And is it like they even know? Everytime I see this, I always just check off "no." If an Employer likes you, they like you.

They can find out by going through records, if you are a former employee.

here are 2 possibilities

1. based on previous record, you might not be eligible for rehire

2. If eligible, your previous time might be added for seniority, bonus, vesting, etc purposes

It's an integrity check.

Maybe back in the day unethical people might have been able to lie about these types of things in order to cover up shoddy work history.

But in this day and age, one would be a fool to think they can lie and get away with it.

And yes, jobs still ask you this question. I applied to a company recently I phone screened with years ago. The application asked if I had ever applied.

A lot of the McDonald's restaurants are franchised operations. There are a whole bunch of locations in my city, and they are all franchises. The paychecks those employees receive don't say "McDonald's", they bear the name of the franchisee.

So technically, someone could have worked "at" a McDonald's, but they didn't work "for" McDonald's.

Oh come on, OP. Hiring isn't as simple as "liking" you! There are these things called records. If you've been employed by that organization before there's a record. Don't you want to receive any possible credit from previous work? Or are you worried about hiding your past?

It's in their computer system. They'll know if you worked there previously.

Hi, I would just like to pass along that I got the job.

It really is true, there is no "computer system" every owner/operator is different.

It's another way to check your honesty, as well as discourage repeat employees who left under negative circumstances (the spotlight might be on them)
