I went to interview for a highly reputable staffing agency in Wall Street for a recruiting position. The perks look amazing, I've done alot or research on the firm, and look at what current and former employees are saying. The position comes with a base salary + commission.
I loved everything that I heard and the career is promising (I've done in-house recruiting for the last 3 jobs and I had a great time doing it). The one thing that got me was the base salary was a bit on the low end. The base salary is $40,000 a year however to avoid calculating for OT (due to a new NYC law) they're going to pay me equivalent to $58,500 a year. $40,000 and 58,500 is a major difference, but if they're going to pay me 58.5K I love the opportunity.
Yes I do. I've worked in lower Manhattan before, but that was years ago when I was getting through college. Lower Manhattan can hurt your pockets but that extra 18K makes my expenses more bearable.
I just feel its strange to make a base salary 40K when you're paying out 58K. Should just make the base salary 58K lol
Don't count on being there in a year. Of the recruiters that connected to me in LinkedIn, they always seem to be moving around 1-2 years. It seems to be very unstable. In a hiring freeze, recruiters are let go while others get to stay.
I would save as much money as you can. Keep your eyes peeled for new opportunities.

Overtime is never guaranteed. Figure out how you're going to live on, say, $45k max - and if that works, and they're not BSing you, you'll have lots of gravy.
May as well go work at a McDonalds in Idaho then. Thats peanuts for NYC
