I'm not familiar with Canadian labo(u)r laws, but they tend to be more progressive than the US. Because of the ADA, people with a mental health issues can speak to HR to have reasonable accommodations made to aid their employment. You don't to disclose to anyone else what your specific issues are. I have a close colleague who is allowed to work from home one day a week, and she has flexibility to attend appointments. If you're in an industry that is less flexible, then those kind of accommodations might not be reasonable, but you'll never know unless you ask.

The bottom line is that you have national and provincial mental health resources available to you, but you need to advocate for yourself. Your doctor wants you to see a psychotherapist, so it's in your best interest to find a situation you can work with.

Try to find one with different hours possibly. Do a google search and see what comes up. I know I live very rural and I had the same problem with their hours of operation. I did notice counselors seem to work later/flexible hours, so maybe look for that over therapist and see if that benefits you at all?

Mental health is important, I feel your struggle. Good luck,OP

Ask for additional referrals from your doctor. Many therapists have evening hours. They understand that taking off work for an appointment is just not possible.

I would find one that has appointments after work, or on your days off...
