My current job I don't clock in or out, it is based on billable hours for the client and you can't go over without getting more approved. You also can't bill less than 40 a week, so I have to budget my time well. I FEEL like even though I am working, I mentally kind of tap out at 6 hours. I'm still new/learning, so I can't waste much time or I will fall behind fast.
But today I didn't have the files for my next project, so my boss had me review something for one of hers. I needed to bill something for my 5 hours remaining, so she told me to just read reallllly slow lol So I only worked maybe 6 of my 10 hours today.
If I am working ten hours in the day, take out an hour and fifteen minutes for break. Some days I am working all of that and some days maybe subtract out an hour or two.
At my other job I have worked eight hours and worked all eight hours. Rough.
Some people reading this might be envious of those answering that they work low hours. Let me tell you, unless those low hours also come with the ability to physically leave the workplace, it's not all it's cracked up to be.
I work in a hospital facilities department. Day starts with a department huddle to go over the days work. My work load is figured out the day before.
Not sure why Lunch was figured into the non working list. Lunch should never be a part of work. We clock out for a half hour for lunch and do not include it. We are allowed two 10 minute rest periods during the day. Other than that it is non stop.

In the salaried world the classic "9 to 5" job includes lunch in the 8 hours. That's no longer the standard that it used to be, and nine hour "8 to 5" days are becoming a lot more common.
I work in manufacturing. If you're not billing 8 hours or at least 7.5 they'll be sitting down with your supervisor who'll be sitting down with you and letting you know they are NOT happy...
