I try not to work in situations like this. I have low blood sugar once in awhile, so I eat whether it is my scheduled time or not, while continuing to work. A lot of people seem to do this anyhow and then I will take a break at my scheduled time, if there is a scheduled time.

Otherwise I just take it when I want to and the majority of my jobs have been like that. I suppose it depends on what field you are in and how many people are in your office. I usually work for big companies, so maybe that is why. Plus I'm usually not dealing with clients. I'm behind the scenes.

On every job I've ever had I've been told when I can go to lunch - sure no one dies if I'm supposed to go at 1 and I get tied up and can't go till 1:30 but I've never just got up and left whenever I wanted to.

The job I have now has been the most flexible job I've ever had regarding lunches. Right now there are 5 other writers that work with me and we all work between 8:30 - 7:00 - only 2 of us can be out at one time, so we take lunch in half hour increments. We all pretty much know the order in which we go and it's not that big of a deal if we have to switch up because someone needs to go earlier or later.

I don't see anything wrong with coordinating lunches with the other workers...no matter what time each individual takes the lunch...as long as business needs are covered.

I thought I should add most of my jobs do say you have to take your lunch somewhere between 11 and 2, but we got to pick when. I almost always take mine early. It makes for a long day though...On most of my jobs I had to take an hour lunch too. I have worked a couple places that let you do a half hour lunch if you wanted to leave a half hour earlier or come in a half hour later. I kind of like that better, if I don't need to leave the office for any reason.

ok so you pick, the rest also do pick. Then, you might have to change. Normal in todays world. So if you all did pick, and something does come up why not ask the boss if you could just do a swap with the other worker. That way maybe it would work. say you have the 12:30 and need to go at 1:30-ask with plenty of time and swap with that person.

I've taken Indian food in before for lunch... that doesn't go over to well either.

One girl I worked put some popcorn in the microwave and went back to her desk. That would have been fine if she had set the time for 3 minutes instead of 30. The microwave caught on fire and had to be replaced. That smell was awful!!
