Default Recruiters

If you are "working" with 5 + recruiters and they tell you when they meet you that they can surely find you something but yet they haven't sent you on ANY interviews, what do you do? Is it me or is it them at fault here?

Recruiters are employed by organizations to find talent but they don't represent prospective employees like personal agents for celebrities or sports stars. Recruiters also respect candidates a lot more when they are introduced to them by trusted third parties or they find the candidate through "sourcing." They often don't do much for candidates who approach them directly. I'd guess if they aren't sending you on interviews, they either don't think your skills and background are the right fit for their employing organization(s) or they just don't have any appropriate leads at the moment. Timing matters a lot in matching candidates to employers.

There's a great book on the subject: "What Does Somebody Have To Do To Get A Job Around Here?" by Cynthia Shapiro. Definitely worth reading.

Thank you! I will take a look at the book.

All of the recruiters approached ME, or in 2 of the cases, a trusted 3rd party referred them to me, set up a meeting for us, etc. That is why it has been so frustrating.

I am a recruiter for the retail/restaurant industries. So I can only speak for these industries. But here is a list of variables that has a lot to do with whether or not a candidate gets sent on an interview.

Is there a need in the area
Is that person relocatable
Is their experience too light
Are they flexible enough with commuting
Current salary (if the current salary is way higher than what our clients are offering, then we don't present that candidate for an interview)
Are they are job hopper
What is their attitude

If you have any further questions, please ask.

Thanks,
mom2justynsarah
