Brown Nosers don't get it or do they?
At my new job there is a guy that is kissing up to one of the other supervisors for no reason at all. It's so obvious it's sad. I never understood the purpose of doing it.
It just does not seem to "pay off". Not to mention I have to much integrity, confidence and pride to kiss anyone's "southside".
City Data, what are you thoughts?
Does it pay to Kiss A#$ or not, also share your brown nose stories..........
Definition:
1. brown nose 1) Someone who sucks up to you to gain your favor. This is done by doing stuff for you for no apparent reason, laughing at stuff you do that wasn't suppose to be funny, agreeing with everything you say, etc...
2)Also known as the TEACHER'S PET or A#$ KISSER.

I've always considered a "Brown Nose" position a full time job on top of the job hired for.
I think it just means the person is not qualified to handle the position at the time of gainful employment.

That's a good way to look at it. It does seem like it requires work to be a brown noser.

Neither my husband nor I have EVER been brown nosers. We treat everyone the same from the guy who sits in the corner office (general manager) to the lady who mops the floor.
Guess that's why I have very little $$$ and no career success??? LOL...
Treat people kindly until they give you a reason not to...Who cares who they are?

I have observed the dynamics of the butt-kisser and management - it appears the smoochers' investment in "extra-curricular" activities DOES pay dividends in the long run.
Too bad I can't play the game - I have too weak a stomach

I do notice, though, that some people with a negative attitude toward authority or work tend to label others with a positive attitude as brown-nosers or *****kissers.
It's clear that true brown-nosing, that obsequious sucking up and panting after someone in authority, is annoying. But I've seen people be accused of brown-nosing or butt-kissing just because they are polite, diplomatic, and respectful.
Some people can't or won't be properly respectful, and they think that any attempt to be respectful is "sucking up." Just some thoughts.

Being respectful and brown nosing is 2 different things. It's very clear when people are brown nosing. Notice I gave the definition in the OP.....
I did that so noone would get confussed about what brown nosing is.
