My resume includes names of former employers. Many of these companies have been bought out, taken over or even gone out of business. For the ones with new names, is it appropriate to have your resume show the new or old name? For the ones that are no longer in business, should there be any note of this on your resume? Thanks.

I like to keep a pay stub and/or 1099 rattling around from old employers. Rarely does any HR person ask about it, but if they do it is nice when the names all match the resume. Of course if you give em access to the 1099 you better not inflate your income, alarm bell would surely go off in their head...

When documenting a previous employer that was bought-out, place the former name in parentheses. For example:

THE JOHN DOE COMPANY (formerly The Jane Doe Company)

How many jobs are you documenting? Don't go overboard. Only document the past 10 years of experience and *only* if it supports your target.
