New Boss Lied!
I don't know what to do. I was just hired two weeks ago as a receptionist for a Chinese Orthodontist...a job I have never done before and she knew it. I have tried my hardest to catch on as quickly as possible and have the computer program for booking appointments down as well as payments and insurance verification. I had a little problem with typing up referral letters due to poor communication skills on her part. I think the language difference is a problem too. She has a very heavy Chinese accent and 99% of her patients are also Chinese. There is another front desk person who is as well but does a terrible job. My guess she is kept there to aid in communication. I was told after I got the job that they were letting the other girl go and I was to do everything! Got called into have a "talk" yesterday after quitting time keeping me an hour later telling me that I haven't lived up to her expectations of an office manager...OFFICE MANAGER???? She was very disturbed about the letter not being done properly the first time and told me she is very demanding..can I handle it? Blah blah..are you committed to this job...blah blah...high expectations and will have another talk in two weeks. I have no one training me except what I can watch the other girl do. I was NEVER told that I would be an office manager and would be doing all the banking, bill payments, collections, secretary, appointments, sterilizing dirty instruments, and taking a bunch of crap from the person that told me that everything she does comes from the heart! I have never had a job managing an office especially from someone that I can barely understand and that doesn't want to explain anything to me..only to blame me later for not getting it right. I don't want this responsibility or the stress of having to jump through hoops for a position I did not apply for. My anxiety level is high before I even get out of bed dreading going to work. Should I get out now or wait to get fired?

I'd have some fun with that one.
Tell the other girl what they told you about letting her go, and then tell her you're going to lunch and not coming back. She just may join you....

I would get out now. If the practitioner is Chinese and the patients are all Chinese I would think she would want a Chinese "office manager" so things run more smoothly due to language issues.

Bad bosses are the reason most people leave a job or position and move on. Bosses come in all sizes and shapes with varying philosophies about how to manage. From the control freak to the corporate narcissist, a manager with poor managerial skills will cause a drop in work production that benefits no one. Learn the six signs of bad bosses and then do what you can to stay in the position. Just keep in mind that a job is not worth risking health and sanity when a bad boss becomes too hard to handle.
Is It Time for a New Job?
You love your coworkers but hate the huge workload. The commute is crazy but the pay is great. So what makes a job a keeper? If you've been contemplating switching jobs, you should be confident in your decision, not conflicted. But how do you know if it's best to send off that letter of resignation or stick it out? Take this quiz to find out if it's truly time for a new job.

I would draft up a resignation letter. When you email it to them, "Cc" it to yourself, so it goes through the email system and is dated, so they can't say you didn't quit and were fired. I think it's time to get out...when someone is being that unreasonable, it means they don't want you.
I agree with the other poster, I would tell the other girl they are going to fire her, too...because, hey, wouldn't YOU want to know too??
Find something else, don't bad mouth them, just say they weren't a good fit and restructured your hours completely different. Or better yet, you never worked there. I think it would be better to say you weren't employed than say you were there. What a crazy hellhole. Listen to your gut feelings on this one.
It is better to quit than be fired. After you resign, make sure you tell everyone you know not to go there or work there. Turnabout is fair play.

One of your duties that stood out to me was this one "sterilizing dirty instruments". If they haven't shown you the proper method, which reading the rest of the post I highly doubt, there could be major problems come up. Is this something they will lay directly at your feet if an instrument is not properly sterilized, or something they will hang you out to dry for and maybe legally liable for. I personally would get out sooner than waiting for them to fire you at their whim and not be prepared for. Your own personal timetable is always better than playing the waiting game.

You might want to inform the Labor Board, with not necessarily a report but a "Letter of Awareness" about this employers misleading attempts and expectation of her employees.
I may be wrong, but it would seem that sterilizing medical equipment would be a field of it's own and done by a trained person.

Then why hire me? She knew I had never worked in an Dentist's office before hiring me as well. Toward the last day of my first week I was called early in the morning and told I will be working in the back with the Dr. and her assistants cleaning and sterilizing. Then the end of this week I am told what she expects from an office manager. WTF! The only nice thing she had to say was she "heard" I was a quick learner. I wish I didn't need the money so much but having to work there three more weeks to get a check another check might warrant suicide or Hari Kari!
