So I was fired two weeks ago and still trying to figure out what to do. My field is event/meeting planning and there are no jobs out there at the moment in my field. Summertime is slow in Phoenix, it's the worst time to look for a job.
I signed up with a few temp agencies, but there are no temp jobs to be had, apparently. I told them I would do anything, full time or part time, office assistant, receptionist, stuffing envelopes. Nothing! I couldn't believe how many people were at the temp place trying to get a job too.
So, I am thinking about taking a survival job just to get by over the summer, and maybe I can find a job in my field in the fall. Is there anything besides waitress or retail?
Do you have any candy companies in the area? I know they usually start hiring in July for the upcoming holidays. My sister started working in July for one and was able to work for six months with them until she was laid off. Just a thought.
Candy companies? Like who? What did your sister do for them? Sounds interesting, but not something I have heard of before.
Well, it was a local candy company, but not in AZ. I thought maybe other candy companies might also do hiring as well since the holiday season will be approaching before you know it. She did various things from making sure the candies were wrapped properly to boxing them up, etc. She got a lot of hours in, sometimes 7 days a week, but then they laid her off after six months.
Front desk or housekeeping at a hotel, telemarketing, delivering newspapers, I know FedEx here is always hiring package throwers, baby sitting or those daycare things...pet sitting/walking.

I was once fired years ago from a job. You learn from it. But if someone calls your former employer and they say you were fired, they are on a slippery slope. They are just supposed to verify that you worked there and employment dates.
I'm sure you have already tried all the marketing firms in town and you probably already belong to the AMA (American Marketing Assn.) that has jobs on it's website.

Are you sure about that? Just wondering because I read on a legal website the other day that they can say anything they want to about you. I hope you are right though.

Okay, think about this....
You could get fired or leave a job, and I could call up Human Resources and say I am Mrs. Webber of Fast Freeze Frozen Foods, and ask questions about you. But what if I am really an attorney? What if I am your barrister brother in NYC who hates Fast Freeze Frozen Foods? I can't sue them unless you were proven to be discriminated racially against or sexually harrassed.
But if you slap $10,000 down on the desk of the dirtiest lawyer you can find, you know he can make life hell for them. (See, it's always about money...which is why the rich never go to prison and OJ walks...that stuff)...so if an attorney knows you are broke, he will probably dismiss you.

Ohh, OK. Hmm.
I know that I left a job once and applied to another job and the person gave me the job but told me that the previous job had told him everything about me, not that it was negative. That's why I wondered what they could really say and not say because evidently this job told them all about me.
