FWIW, a judge in a child support case cannot even ask you for your tax returns if you have a spouse. It's none of his business how much she makes.

So, even if they have a legitimate reason for it, it would be illegal.

They can, however, ask for w-2 forms.

Why didn't you ask what they needed them for? It was a completely logical and legal question to have asked.

I agree Driller, I agree because you are right. Any business can join the BBB for a fee. The BBB is just another revenue producing business like any other. A business pays a hefty fee to be able to put the BBB emblem on their card. What a waste of money.

That's not exactly true. My business is on there because I was awarded "Customer Appreciation" by my customers.

In a way it's good that businesses can have their name on there because it will say whether or not they have a license and other information about them. Whether good or bad.
Most Businesses don't have to pay to get on the BBB list. They're on they either on from customer awards or complaints and that will be stated.

You do have to pay to join the BBB Club or Committee, but that don't make your business any better or worse.

No way. Don't give them your returns. There is way too much information they can get off of those. And - they can verify his previous salaries by checking references.

It is illegal in Michigan to engage in well drilling, pump instillation or work below the well head without a license. Yet, seven are listed in good standing on the BBB site. That is aiding and abetting. I talked to the DEQ this AM. They agree. The BBB will be getting a call from the Michigan Attorney General's Office.

Yes.

Anyone can join the BBB for a fee. Once you are a member of the BBB you better be an honest business. Because if you screw up some customer will report you. If you do good, some customer will give you the thumbs up and you could even win you an award.

But studies show that less then 10% of all service type jobs started are ever first checked by the customer with the BBB to find out if a company is naughty of nice.

It has its goods and its bads. Probably more goods then bad though.

I figure the very low percentage of those who check with the BBB before hiring some one is so small that it aint worth the hefty BBB fee.
