So, if they expected that the company would close, would it be nosy to tell the prospective employee? Or should they just butt out of that as well?

I guess that some people think it's OK to lie, steal, and/or cheat, as long as it hurts the employer.

Why do so many people hate those who provide jobs for so many people?

It's not about hate. It's about not being afraid to look after your own interests. Otherwise, you just get stepped on and taken advantage of.

Companies do not value employees anymore. You as the employee are highly irreplaceable. Doesn't matter if you were the star employee for 5 years. You can come to work on a random Wednesday and be told that you're fired. It happens all the time.

So who said anything about cheating and stealing? And lying...well was the OP really telling a lie? She does not have a crystal ball, anything could happen. Perhaps she ommitted a few details, yes. But you go be 100% honest all of the time with your employer or potential employer and see how far that gets you these days.

It is not hate. It is protecting yourself, which I suspect that a lot of people have learned this lesson the hard way. You may find yourself in a similar position someday. Handle it as you feel comfortable, but please don't judge others for doing what they feel necessary.

Actually, the "lie, cheat, and/or steal" was more of a generalization about attitudes that have been expressed on this board and not aimed at the OP in any way. There is great contempt hurled at employers and it's anything goes as far as getting one over on them, but if an employer is told that a prospective employee might be moving, it's "nosy".

Many people here seem to hate employers, but I wonder where the jobs would come from if it weren't for employers? The government?

I think the OP did the right thing in the end.
