Default Taking time off

What do you think is the effect of taking a 1 yr hiatus from work for a mid 30s IT guy. Would a future employer view this very negatively?

Might depend on why you are taking off - travel, volunteer work, schooling, caring for a family member would be looked at more positively than watching soaps and eating bon bons for a year. Also, how much will things change in your area of specialty in a year, and can you stay up to speed on new advances in technology?

I agree with the previous answer...although you could say you tried your own business and it did not pan out. You could also do some traveling to, let's say Europe and do some "research" on their IT infrastructure, come back and apply for graduate school and return to work. I say, do it if it is affordable, but keep up with the technology if you intend to return to that work area. Good luck!
