Cool put 2-weeks notice before signing??

Is it a really bad idea to put in my 2 weeks notice before signing anything? I received an offer over the phone and they are sending the detailed package within a week ... but my boss is leaving for vacation for 3 weeks after this week and it might be impossible to put in my 2-weeks once he leaves ....

So should I do it with just a verbal offer before I have the details ???

Don't worry about your two weeks notice - in many white collar jobs these days the minute you give that two weeks notice they ask you to leave right away. Even when you truly want to stay the two weeks to wrap things up, many employers will simply not let you. Do what is best for YOU and wait for that signed, sealed and delivered new offer before you quit where you are

Dh once had a job offer unravel between the offer and the official acceptance. I suggest you have a firm, acceptable and accepted offer in had before you give notice to your current employer.

When the time comes can you give notice to HR instead of your direct boss??

Send a message via Yahoo to Queenjust
Just secure your new position, then put in the notice. If you do not like you boss or job, give them a Qweenjust notice: Don't show up and when they call tell them you gave them a notice. "They should have noticed you did not show up"

I agree... I had one really hostile coworker who had been there longer than me. She didn't have a degree or any credentials, and the minute I came there, she tried to get me fired. She went to our boss the second day I was there and said I wasn't doing anything. My boss even thought it was odd, because she said, "Oh, I always saw you working." I said, "Why does she say I am not working...go look on the software, it shows my initials after everything i have done."

She never gave up and became extremely menacing. One other coworker had a tire slashed and this one hinted that I did it! I lived about 30 miles from her...so wow...out of all the people in that city she lived in, I did it...wow....

When I went to quit, I typed and emailed a letter. I cc'd it to myself, too, and I put that I was offering 2 weeks notice. Now, I had no intention of doing the 2 weeks notice, since there was very little work to do and this scum of a human being kept trying to get my boss to send me home without pay. They had their little clique, and why the boss wouldnt see through this...well...this one did the boss' work for her, that's why...

So I just called and said, my resignation letter is in your email. I gave 2 weeks notice, but it is not safe for me to go into the department. Since they let scumbucket convince them that they needed her, not me, and I had no say in the matter, my being there would not have made any difference.

I wasn't going to let them escort me to the door and go through that kind of put down. No way. I took care of myself with this deal, and if they were going to behave like a bunch of high school babies, then so be it. The old "don't burn bridges" doesn't matter anymore. They would ********* over in a heartbeat.
