A) Criminal records are public information
B) If the individual committed a crime and I learned about it I'd be pretty aggravated that the person could have done something that would impact me. It is the employer's job to provide the employee with a safe/secure work environment. This is why employers have been (rightfully) sued in the past for knowingly (or unknowingly due to poor or nonexistent background checks) hiring people with a criminal background. They are putting their other employees at risk.
granted but most people don't go looking up thier new coworker's public information.
People, Move Lover is hysterical! Hey's GAY! Have you read his profile? Gawd, faves are dance music, Greta Garbo, moive actress biographies, Desperate Housewives (among others). His pet is a "cute bunny". This is why he SUPPOSEDLY has such a problem with homosexuals. He's like that imbecile with his cult church in Kansas that follow Iraqi war soldier funerals and then scream about gays. He's so far in the closet, it's like Narnia.
Now fortunately, I'm sophisticated enough to know that this does not in and of itself indicate a desire to go mattress-surfing with another man. But, if one applies the same sense of "logic" to this poster's comments, well then, it's time to fly the lavender flag.
Yes, there are people that ignorant and out of touch. This poor guy needs serious help.
I need help, I couldn't agree more. If I'm so bad, why am I then still able to walk the streets. Have you ever considered that I've got a problem due to my disability? Believe me, I got a lot of hangups. You looked at what you wanted to see. What about the fact that I'm straight and like The Sopranos. I thought Sopranos was a man thing, ya know, all that kind of thing.

1. First of all a company that DOESN'T do a background check is opening themselves up to legal liability (rightfully so) if something happens b/c they did not ensure a safe working environment.
2. If people suspect they have reason or something happens they might look it up. It's a small world & it seems that things have a way of being found out.
3. It all comes down to the legal obligation that the employer has to provide a safe environment for their employees to work. So it isn't discrimination NOT to hire someone with a criminal record; in fact an employer who opts NOT to do the background check could be opening themselves up for a problem in the future should something ocur.

Ex-cons have to work for a living too. Hard to believe, but some people actually DO put their past behind them and want to lead law abiding lives after a felony conviction. And some companies DO hire felons.

No, you wouldn't. There are gays that are not effeminate in any way, shape, or form.
The only way you would know if SOME people were gay is if you were having sex with them. Not all gays are roller blading dressed up as nuns in gay pride parades.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news for you buddy, but many MANY thousands of people are in heterosexual marriages, lead str8 lives, go to church, the whole nine yards and they are secretly gay, because of fear, shame, and well, people like you.
I'd say it's a pretty safe bet you have uncles or aunts, or some relations that are gay and you have NO idea.

Hello! HIV is not transmitted by shaking hands, door knobs or toilet seats. You'd be dead meat by now if it was.
"...put a little something in me..." now there's a euphemism I haven't heard before.
Movie Lover, do you think perhaps you are more afraid of what people would think of YOU, if you allowed a gay person to work for you? You may not have hatred for gays, but I think you do have issues you are not aware of or are willing to admit.

I am afraid if I employ one that people already employed may have issue about them and leave.
As for the "put a little something in me" thing, I meant when I was growing up I saw these AIDS adverts about not dying of ignorance. You know the one that shows the gravestone. For a boy under 12 to see that kind of thing its a no wonder I have questions or queries about the whole gay issue.
My crossdressing gayness is a habit I tried to quit 5 times by purging, but always came back to buying clothes. I am addicted to dressing up in a skirt suit, wig, fake breast, makeup, jewelry - and looking like a totally beautiful woman! I admire myslef lots in a full lentgh mirror, and I pass and look beautiful enough to shop as a woman and use the woman's fitting room and bathroom! I can't quit this addiction!
Sounds lovely! Who doesn't love buying women's clothes?
Bring it on!
