I was emberrassed when I first saw someone I knew at work. I was ashamed to tell anyone what I did for a living. Just saying bathroom attendent sounds like someone who has a few items sitting on the sink and begs for tips. Then I realized that no one truly likes thier job. If I were at any job and a friend showed up what would I do. I'd make quick small talk but remind them that I'm at work.

This weekend a woman came in to the club restroom and amidst a large group of women she looked at my display like it was **** although I'm sure to supply top name brands and universal selection. She saw my tip jar and said loudly, "Tip for what? This is bull****... why should I tip." I told her in just as loud a voice but still being polite that people tip because we provide things people need but don't have at the moment. Then I let her know that if she was just going to stand there and complain she must not need anything but to let me know if she did. All this while women were coming in and out, using items and tipping all along. She looked upset that I wasn't willing to allow her to make me feel bad for how I make a living. Then she repeated herself, I guess to herself because no one seemed to be paying her any attention, and left.

Later the same night a girl came in to talk to me because I had helped her. The week before she was too drunk to know what she was doing and kept drinking though she was past her limit. She was almost passed out in the stall when I knocked because she was in there so long. Her friends were drinking too and came in and out checking on her but not wanting to leave the club they left her there. I called the bouncers to get her friends for her and help carry her to her car. She came back last week and thanked me because she wasn't drunk she was having an allergic reaction and her throat was closing up. When she got to the emergency room that night she was only breathing at 12%. I wasn't the only who helped her but just think... if left too long, she could have died. Sounds like a movie right? I know but it's true.

I know how important my job is... that's not to say I don't want a better job. I'm o.k. making money the way I do as of now, while I build for my future.

I needed a part-time job and answered an ad, not sure of what I was getting into. I ended up working 3 nights a week at 3 different spots in town, Voodoo Lounge at the Rio, Plush nightclub in Summerlin, and the FIX restaurant at the Bellagio. I worked about 16 hours a week altogether doing this. Here's what I can tell you:

1) I averaged $700-$800 a week in my pocket.
2) My best night ever at Voodoo was $650 take-home and at Plush was $775 (New Years Eve 2005).
3) Attendants at bigger clubs like Light, Body English, Rumjungle, Ghost, etc are pulling $800 a night average and if it is a special event or New Years hitting 2K take home is real.
4) The job is not as bad as you might think considering the money you are making, it is like a bartender in some ways, dealing with alot of drunks.
5) The company I worked for has many clubs in town and we work of a 70-30% split, I keep 70% of what I make and they get 30%. The only thing I pay for out of my pocket are smokes/mints/gum/candy/condoms which you can make huge profits off these items anyway. The company supplies the colognes/hair products/mouthwash etc.
5) I am sure that most people doing this job in other locations are not making as much money as you can in a place like Las Vegas but considering how easy this is and how you can do it part-time it's pretty cool.
6) The clubs love to have bathroom attendants because, although we are not security, we are a pair of eyes that make sure the bathroom is kept somewhat clean (the clubs have porters to do the heavy duty stuff), no drugs are done in the open ( this can be hard to completely control as once the stall door closes who knows what happens), and that sex does not occur in the john ( I turned down thousands of dollars over time from people who wanted to get busy in the bathroom). And the clubs pay nothing for the bathroom attendants so it's easy for them to say yes to a company offering these services.

I got burned out in time from the late-night hours and got a job where I could not fit it in anymore but did very well for the time I did it and have no regrets.

say if you wouldn't mind could you forward the company info in vegas to me at Mod cut: email address deleted. Send a DM instead. as I have 7 years experience as an attendant and am looking to break into the business in vegas

thanks

John

Now if she is washing my hands for me and handing me a real towel and then lotioning my hands for me then that is tip worthy. I think it has gone too far. Or if you take a couple pieces of candy mints you gotta leave a $1 tip. Heck you can buy a whole bag of mints for that at walmart!

And I am a great tipper, but I just think it has gone too far in this country, where folks want a tip for doing nothing. Like why do you have to tip a person for handing u a donut at dunkin doughnuts?? What did they do that was exceptional service?
Exactly! This tipping business almost makes me want to stay at home. I have never seen one of these "restroom attendants" before but I guess it is because I don't frequent bars or clubs. Regardless, I don't want to be forced to tip someone a buck each time I visit the ladies room. Imagine how many times folks HAVE to use the restroom facilities after drinking? This is just another way of taking advantage of customers, especially those who are inebriated.

Here in Germany they are pretty commom though I don`t think I have seen one in a bar or restauraunt, maybe in a big club. Anyways they are there to clean and the places that have them normally have quite clean restrooms. I`ll happily pay the .50€

They're usually in nicer places and bigger places with multiple stalls so you probaby wouldn't have privacy anyway, attendant or not.

FYI, everyone: this is an 8-year-old thread which was resurrected today by a spammer. (The spam post has been deleted.) It's okay to keep posting here, but realize that the OP and some other prior posters are long gone.

You must have been born after 1980. I was very common in the better hotels and restaurants, until the late 20th century, and still is found in high-class establishments.
