Why are walmart greeters so creepy and usually on the elderly side?

I mean can't they hire people that enunciate their words clearly, have aesthetic features, and pleasant/friendly personalities? Why don't they hire with common sense and a reasonable checklist of characteristics?

I rarely see any walmart greeters that are to my description.....they usually mumble something, look intoxicated, or worn out and sometimes kinda freaky...and it makes me want to leave walmart.

any clues or opinions on this...

The following I witnessed: The guy at my local Asda - Walmart was elderly. He mumbled to people a lot, then one day he mumbled to the wrong person. They dragged him out in front of nearly 100 witnessess and threw him at the bus stop and told him to "**** off and never come back". He never came back. The police were never called as the witnessess know not to say anything.

What? Are you serious? That is horrible. I didn't say the weird and the elderly needed to be treated poorly. I meant they need not be hired as greeters. Greeters should have big white teeth, nice odor and hair, speak clearly, etc.

I thought Walmart specifically hired seniors to be there greeters...I have never seen any that look "creepy" but many that look like they've got one foot in the bucket..just old as Methusla!

What makes me dislike Walmart so much is the people who work there (ie cashiers, etc) and I hate to say it most of the clientele who shop there. The one near me is always jam packed, tons of unsupervised children running up and down the isles with parents who could care less, disrespectful teenagers...ugh! What did it for me was the cashier that was eating while checking my items out. He looked at me straight in my face as he shoved chips in his mouth and then proceeded to use his greasy fingers to scan my items! Never again!

I may have to pay a little more but I shop at Target over Walmart ANYDAY!

Because Elderly people dont want to sit around all day so they want to get out and do something whether it pays or not and wal-mart is the only place that would hire such people.

Artsy, what's wrong with you - you know those people are already employed somewhere else!

Does Wal-Mart still have greeters? I don't go there much (I don't care for the cluttered aisles and rube clientele), but when I do I never notice a greeter at the door.
