Stop watching the news or it will negatively impact you.
The economy is tanking and they love going on about. I hardly ever watch the news since moving to VT...I no longer have to see what the latest home invader is doing or who got shot last night (I lived in NY before).
During my job search I have been avoiding negatives. Last night I turned on the 11:00 pm news...unemployment in my state (a state not known for many jobs anyhow) is up at its highest in 15 years.
I guess I could use this as an excuse why I am unemployed. On the other hand, I refuse to use it as an excuse. What good will that do?
So, my suggestions to my fellow job hunters...shut off the news...do not read the paper...avoid online 'unemployment' stats...it's just negative programing and it will also be 'an excuse' to do nothing (therefore detrimental to your job search.)
I try to avoid the negative but still keep up to date with current events. I don't think it is wise to bury one's head in a pile of sand from the rest of the world and encourage the disinterest in world issues America is already suffering from.

People survived far worse....hang in there..
very true. There are still list upon lists of programming jobs and criminalist jobs. Most of those jobs are controlled by small to medium businesses and local government. The big boys moved to India with programming and now India is beating the United States in space.
Gas prices are going down, cost of food is going down, jobs are still plentiful. The over inflation controlled by wall street is over, they have been humbled.

I get my current events from the 5, 6, and 10:00 news. I sometimes watch Bloomberg to see how the market is doing, but that is it.
Most of the time the news has to report something just because they have to report something every day I never watch it. I do read news articles online alot just so I am not totally clueless but most of the time it's best to take it a little at a time.
Tonight I'll betcha they will report that the economy is in a slump!! ya think? Been going downhill in my neck of the woods for going on ten years
Well, I don't think you should have your head in the sand but the news, both print and tv capitalize and focus on 'negative news.' This has been proven.
I think when the economic news comes on, you can just shut off.

12 pm Unemployment claims up 43%
2 pm -Economy strong....
It's a bunch of contradictions.
I think a person can be well versed in current events and still not be 'news hounds.'
Seek out all sources! A good international site is the BBC (online).

I never watch it. I do read news articles online alot just so I am not totally clueless but most of the time it's best to take it a little at a time.
