Getting bored of my profession..in healthcare...a PA. Dont want to change careers for 2-3 years given the current state of the economy. But, I want to start thinking about it now...so that I can research and make the transition. Any suggestions from people who have made major career shifts? How did you do? Any good resources? I am in my 30s, no kids and can pretty much relocate anywhere. Thanks!

Law school? I would think somebody with your medical background would be in demand as a lawyer. Or make contacts with people in pharmaceuticals if you want to get into sales or clinical trial research. Same with medical equipment sales.

I retired from the military (was in aircraft maintenance) I enjoyed my career in the military, but really didn't want to do it on the outside. Not thrilled with the civilian job picture, anyway. Honestly, I'd always wanted to be in the trucking industry. I thought I'd drive for a few years, then work my way into management. Eleven years later, I still hold a steering wheel. I love what I do and have decided that management (especially in a large truckload carrier...) is not my cup of tea.

Globetrekkeress, it looks like you're in a good situation. You're gainfully employed, so you have time to look around and see what job(s) you might be interested in. Do your homework!!! (I see FAR too many people that get into trucking without really understanding what they are getting into...) Make sure that you really want to pursue a career before you invest in training for it. Best of luck!

Have you thought about the a career switch to a "green-collar" job?? I really think this is going to be in high demand in the coming years. I'm sure the industry will be as diverse as any. But maybe with your background in nursing you could start to tailor that into something bio-technical or even hospital administration but with an "eco-friendly" twist. i.e. how to run hospitals more effeciently and with less waste. ???
I am definitely looking to try to break into this field. It's something I am really passionate about and I think its something that we are going to have to do soon anyways. Unfortunately I don't have your technical background but rather more sales and construction based. I think some facet of that industry will be "recession - proof" (Or at least resistent) because there is going to come a time when we won't be able to ignore it anymore.
