Why call me if you have 'so many resumes?'
This just happened...today, Veteran's Day. A day I figured no one would call.
Someone called from a resume/letter I sent.
The woman was adversarial! Asked me if I was interested in XYZ job. I said can I hear more about the duties..? She asked me where and how long I have been interviewing, and what $ I wanted.
She spoke briefly about the job. I said I was open about the $, was more interested in a career position.
Woman does a 360 and says, I have a load of resumes, if the manager is interested we will give you a phone interview then a real one..we have 2 people coming this week for the job and the interviewing for it is closing.
Why the hell call me then?
Please, leave me alone on holidays. I can't believe I got caught off guard (again) and had this person call me like I was wasting HER time...PS the money was not good, the job duties were not even spoke about...
Any HR people please explain why people do this??

I swear it's a game to these people. I said in another post in here somewhere that i swear these companies find every reason NOT to hire someone. I don't know how many apps i filled out over my 13 weeks of being out of work. I had 2 interviews with one company, and hadn't heard from them since. I also had an interview last week, and was offered a position, and accepted. I have orientation Thursday, and then i imagine they will put me into the schedule.

I don't see why you'd waste your time to call someone, ask interrogating questions on A HOLIDAY, then act like you really had someone already for the job.
Stupid, really.

Not sure if there was a direct hire position or not (I find that HR is usually okay to deal with), but these recruiters are a bunch of scam artists (a majority of them). I hate it when a recruiter contacts you about a job that has NOTHING to do with your skillset. They match a specific skill/technology and run with it. Who is hiring these recruiters and why are they soo oblivious to the skills necessary for a position?

Would the person consider this a 'career position' - if not, that would explain the 360.

She was from the company. I guess they may have had 2 jobs open. I sent them a resume and they called me.
She asked me the question I REALLY hate...'have you been on many interviews since you left your last job?'
1) Why do you need to know?? (how desperate am I?)
2) Why do you really care? (is this your business somehow??)

Most people who want to find a job would be happy to be contacted for a potential job. Perhaps if there are times and days that you do not want to be a job-hunter, you might consider putting that information on your resume, or in your letter. Otherwise, HR people will actually believe that job-hunters want to be available.

Perhaps the Universe is telling you to be ready? After all, this IS your life and right now your job is job-hunting, no?
Remember that it's never personal. Just be your smart, happy, enthusiastic and optimistic self and enjoy the process. I wish you well!

In your original post, you said she talked about the job, you answered that you were more interested in a career position, she did a 360. If this woman didn't consider this a 'career position' (which is a pretty vague term) it sounds like you were telling her you weren't interested in her open position, which would explain why she did a 360 on you.
As far as the question, she could have been trying to gauge your initiative or trying to determine how much she could get away with offering you.
